I need to change the Restrict Anonymous Registry to 0, but I don't know how
to go about it. I know the script to make the changes but where do I key
this in? As you can see, I'm normally a user, not an administrator. The
changes need to be made to allow the setup of my home network.
thks

Why do you need to do this to "set up a home network"? I've NEVER had to do
that to set up a home network. What sre you trying to do, and what doesn't
work when you try it?

Hello Gordon
I've just set up a home network, 1 x desktop, 2 x laptops. The old desktop
and old laptop run xp home and i can view and share files between these two,
but the new laptop (which runs xp pro) gives me "network (name) is not
accessible, you might not have permission to use this network resource,
contact administrator etcThe list of servers is currently unavailable, "

There's no connectivity problem as I can view the internet. The laptop is
just days old so has factory settings and I did check the Restrict Anonymous
Registry and it is on 0, so I still have the same problem. I've tried it by
disconnecting the firewall to no avail.

The two laptops run on wireless, while the desktop is on ethernet cable.
All into a D-Link router which takes wireless and patch. I've followed
wizard procedures on all and have checked IP and naming etc. Any ideas??
I've hit a wall....

Firstly have you turned off Simple File Sharing on the Pro laptop, and
secondly, have you run the Network Wizard on ALL machines? You should
DEFINITELY not have to edit the registry to set up a network between Home
and Pro. The other thing you need to check, is that in Pro the Guest
account is turned off by default, as it is seen as security risk so you
can't use guest account access which is what the Home machines do
(AFAIK....). On the Pro Laptop, create users with the identical names and
passwords of the users on the desktops that need to access the Pro laptop.

hi Gordon

Yes, guest acct is 'off', as for file sharing, I'm not at that stage yet as
the network doesn't even show in 'my network places'. I've allowed one
folder on my c:\ drive for file sharing only.
I've pinged and can contact the other laptop by pinging (both wireless) but
can't contact the desktop which is connected via ethernet.

Will call Microsoft here locally (nz) as have hit a wall....thks for your
ideas.

For the record it was a Norton Internet Security conflict. Even though I had
the NIS firewall de-activated, I still had to uninstall NIS on all computers
for the home network to operate effectively. I then re-installed NIS and has
been fine since..
