How do I e-mail a document directly from Word?

I used to be able to do this, and then the option disappeared. The "Send"
under
File is greyed out. This is a huge nuisance to me as I send lots of
documents back and forth to people on my e-mail list. It is way too much
trouble to have to go back to Outlook and then attach the document. Help!
 
I had a similar thing happen when our IT group added Lotus notes to our
computers for database use. It seems that Outlook lost it's priority
somehow. I set Outlook to the default e-mail client and did a repair install
to MS office and that put everything back in order again. (Ref MS Office
2003)

I do not know if this works on other version.
