I'm trying to draw a closed arc in a power point presentation. The idea is
to use more of swoop than a line to underline a bullet - one that could be
filled with a gradient and have entrance animation effects added to it. But
in using the arc tool it fills the entire arc, and the curve and free form
tools don't give me the smoothness or the control in making the arc. Any
suggestions on how to draw a closed arc?

You might use the curve and then use Edit Point to adjust the smoothness.

PPT 2007 can create gradient lines, so if you can access PPT 2007, you can
draw the curve there, smooth it out, and then create a gradient line. (This
gets you away from having to close the arc.) Then right-click and save as an
image and use it in PPT 2003 or wherever.
