How do I download e-mail with outlook 2003 closed

With Outlook 2000 my e-mail downloaded even if I had closed Outlook2000.

I recently upgraded to Outlook 2003, but I can not make it download mye-mail
when it is closed.

Can anybody tell me how to make this happen.

you had something keeping outlook 2000 open but running hidden- outlook
doesn't offer the ability natively.
