Ok, here is what I want to do. I want to be able to see both my calendar
and task list side by side without opening each in the separate windows. I
want them to both be a part of the same window by default when I open
Outlook.

How do I do this?

What version of Outlook are you using?

In most versions you can turn on the Task Pane (View | Task Pane) in
calendar and see the task pane on the right side of the screen with your
calendar on the left.

Then go to Tools | Options | Other | Advanced and set the default folder to
the Calendar.

I'm using MS Outlook 2003. I've checked View and it doesn't have anything
about a taskpad.

which folder are you in when you look and which calendar view do you have
set? you need to be in the calendar and using a day/week/month view.

You might wanna drag your right margin to the left (drag from the right side
of the scroll bar).
