I want to prevent people who visit my web page from being able to
right-click, especially on pictures. How can I do this?

How do I stop people from downloading my graphics or code?

That won't keep me or most others from copying anything that you put
on a website. Try anything you care to, and then come back to this
newsgroup and tell us your website is secure and no copying can be
done. You'll see how fast it shows up here!! What I'm saying is, don't
put it on a website if you don't want it captured. If you sell
pictures, degrade them for the website or watermark them.

Don't you just love people who leave replies like that?

Pythagoras6, if you are still interested in disabling rt. click or
protecting pictures let me know. I run several websites including one of our
high school that has sports photos of the games. People kept coming and
stealing them instead of purchasing them like they are supposed to. After a
lot of work I was able to disable right click and disable the popup print
toolbar. I was also able able to insert a code that when people click the
print button an order form will print out instead of the picture. This works
on both Netscape and IE as well as other less popular browsers.

I know I know, you say you can STILL get the images. Well yes. But 99% of
the people who want my pics are people who don't know anything about Print
Screen.

Here is one of the pages:

E-mail me if you want to talk.

Good luck.

You are definitely deluding yourself on that one. The correct percentage is
this -

99% of the people who are flummoxed by your attempts are people you wouldn't
need to worry about anyhow.

Yea, ok buddy. Whatever that means. Is that what you call contributing to the
discussion? Do you have anything informative to say or are you just out
spreading holiday cheer?

Do you have anything informative to say

Yes, definitely. Don't waste the time or effort on trying to prevent
someone from doing what they are determined to do. If you don't want your
content taken, then don't put it on the web.

Your methods, or anyone else's for that matter only degrade the
functionality of your site, and make *you* feel better, at the expense of
your visitors.

Joe,

Murray is just trying to save you time and effort. BUT if you insist on
using "No Right Click" script....
Please try this one.....

http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex9/noright2.htm

Description: This alternate version of the original no right click script
targets only images, so right clicking is disabled only when attempting to
save an image on the page. Great if you wish your visitors to be able to
access the default right menu in general cases.

Important! Due to inherent limitations, in NS4, this script does not disable
right clicking on images that are hyperlinked.

Have a Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!

Ah, so those of us who are left-handed could still access the site?
People who want to disable right-click usually forget hands come in two
flavors.

Hi Brian,

"No way can you stop me from getting a picture that I can view on the
Internet!"

I can even dismantle a Flash file and remove the pictures....

If it makes him feel good to think they are safe so be it...

Give them what they want... But leave them wanting more...
(when thy find out it don't work) Hahahahha

Yes, I am sure YOU can do it. But you don't where I live man. I live in
freakin' Mayberry RFD. Most people around here still have 8-track players.
And like I said before, 99% of the people who want these pictures are not as
computer savy as you.

I was only trying to help the guy, like somebody did for me. Why can't we
give him options and let him decide for himself besides saying "you can't do
it so don't waste your time."?

Not everybody lives in Mayberry.

For the same reason, if someone asks you to fill their bucket and you notice
a hole in the bottom, as a good citizen, you tell them about the hole rather
than turning on the tap.

Think of it as "value-added" advice.

The advice given encourages them not to go down the blind alley.
The links given to the scripts are there if you want to disregard the
advice.

You choose.
