Hi All. Having a bit of a problem with windows XP. I keeps experiencing this
problem too. I know for a fact that windows xp can display a resolution that
my vid card supports. Which is like 2000x something. However, It will only go
up to like 1300xsomethin 80 for somereason when i know if i can disable auto
detect and use of plug n play monitors i can use that resolution. I had this
problem in Windows 98SE as well, and I was able to solve that by simply
checking the do not detect plug and play monitors box sadly that simople
solution has been taken away. How do I solve my issue? Thanks in advance!

What video card and driver revision are you using?
Even though my LCD display and a seperate monitor report PNP info, I can
over-ride it in the video card driver advanced setup area.
In the past, I've used KVM switches that blocked the PNP monitor detection.

HAHA. I know for a fact my new ViewSonic should be able to handle that
resolution because it did handle 1600x1200 nicley. The one time i somehow
managed to get it to display in that resolution that is.

Let's See, My monitor is a ViewSonic VA902b 19" LCD Flatpanle Monitor (has
780i and 1080i hdtv output capablities) and as for the video card driver
version I'm using
is 8.203.0.0 dunno its like catalyst 5.05 or something. Anyways i also
forgot to mention that when i do try to go for the smaller (higher
resolutions) in pnp mode, my monitor literally enlarges the image output to
make windows almost unusable. So thats actually the reason why I want to know
how to do this pnp thing. Also I'm a advanced-semi-power user so I should be
able to follow and understand any instructions you give. As far as advanced
setup i didnt even know you could modify that stuff. And i wouldnt know where
to begin. so if you could please guide me through youd be a big help. Thanks
again btw and a belated happy new year.

to put what i want to do even simpler. All I want to do is keep windows from
detecting and using the pnp monitor as its first and primary monitor all the
time instead of default monitor. But I guess you understood that. Anyways
again i have no idea where to begin with advanced driver setup area. as far
as i could tel theres no advanced option settings in the install menu as
well. I guess i have to extract the files from the exe with winrar and edit
the ini files or something?

and i just realized about my driver version i made a mistake when i said i
was using catalyst 5.05 i must be using at least either catalyst 5.10 5.11 or
5.12. hopefully you can tel by the driver version number i gave above.

I forgot to mention that i have sp2 win xp. i figured that be important info
for you to help guide me or whatever. seeing as most peope ask for that kind
of info when for tech support.

Well Master Jedi, the force is not with you today. The monitor, if it
is in fact a ViewSonic VA902b as you claim has a native resolution of
1280x1024 and an optimized resolution of 1280x1024 and is compatible
(PC) with VGA up to 1280x1024. However, if you have not told your OS
what monitor is attached (i.e. you didn't use the ViewSonic Wizard CD,
XP is not aware of this little factoid.
Your video driver, from another one of your post in this thread is a
catalyst 5.10 or maybe catalyst 5.11 or maybe catalyst 5.12, or maybe
you have downloaded catalyst 5.13 by now, which is cool but if you
don't know, don't expect most of the people, who really can help you,
to waste their time doing what you obviously don't care enough to do
yourself...
You still haven't bothered to tell us what your video card is.
Obviously you feel its compatible with the Catalyst 5.10 (et. al.)
driver.

I can tell you how to do it and you could easily do it. But keep in
mind, that if you p_ss us off with your attitude and lack of apparent
interest in helping us help you, the advice you get could either be
misleading or more likely incomplete. Such as, I personally have
extensive experience of pushing TFT active matrix SXGA LCD displays
way past their manufacturer's specified optimum resolution, and the
results can be spectacular and permanent. You could end up with a $340
cdn paperweight. So it is in your best interest to ask questions
politely and answer them as completely as you would like your question
answered.
One other minor point, vary poor grammar, to use the words Ha, fact,
and should in the same sentence.

1. What is the make and model of you Video Card?
2. Have you installed any ViewSonic utilities or drivers?
3. Have you read and do you understand the User Guides of your
monitor, video card, and Catalyst 5.10/11/12 ATI Driver?
