Could someone please tell me how to delete passwords to protected websites that I have saved? This does not refer to autcomplete, but rather passwords and id's for protected sites. I am giving my computer away and would like to delete all my saved passwords. Thank you in advance

If you're giving away your PC to someone else, you should completely wipe
all data from your hard drive with a utility designed for that purpose, then re-format
and re-install the operating system. Anything less is asking for big trouble; even just
re-formatting isn't safe.

Don,
I'm not sure I understand. When you go to one of these login pages, if you
type the first letter or two of the username, does the username appear in
the drop-down autocomplete list?

Thank you for your reply. Over the past few years I have needed to gain access to websites that are protected and require a password and id. To save time, I have told IE (or maybe XP) to sve my information, so that I do not have to reenter it each time. Unfortunately, I do not remeber them all and would like to delete them. I know they are stored by IE somewhere, but i'm not sure the file name.

Thank you,

Don

OK. I thought that maybe you had cleared them from Tools> Internet Options>
Content> Autocomplete, but they wouldn't clear. Will they clear from there?

Nope. I dl a program that can find them, but it costs $25 to be able to delete them. It seems to me that there should be a way to delete them myself

Thanks

Don

Don,
Sorry for the delay...

With no programs open,
Run REGEDIT and make your way to this key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\IntelliForms\SPW]
Export that key (Registry> Export- just in case you wish to undo the
change) then delete it- just the SPW key.
Restart the computer.
If that registry key was damaged, you should be able to clear passwords the
usual way next time.
