How do I delete a partition and allocate the free space to C:?

I have spent a good deal of time browsing the web and help sites about this.
I have learned that I can use Disk Management to "delete" my D: drive, but
this leaves 2 GB of free space just sitting there. I have never used the D:
drive so have no important info to save. All I want to do is add this 2 GB
back to C:, but there doesn't seem to be an option to do this.

Every site and post and forum I've found has been about creating a
partition, adding an OS, moving data about... this is not what I want.

I'm using Windows XP Home on a comp I've had for a few years. As I said,
I've never used D: except for Page Filing, which IMO would work better all on
one drive. Can someone please tell me how to allocate this free space back
to C:?

Response: First- semantics - is this "D drive" a second physical hard drive
or
a partition on the "C" drive? If a second physical HD you cannot add it back
to
the "C" drive (If I remember correctly XP Home basic disks do not support
striped. extended, etc. volumes).
If it is a partition on the "C" drive a third party utility like Partition
Magic will allow
you to resize "C" without loss of data.

It will take 3rd party software.
You might look at partition Logic.
http://partitionlogic.org.uk/
It's freeware and should be able to do what you want. I don't think it works
on sata drives though.
 
What was the make and model of your computer?
