how do i delete a corrupt history folder?

my history folder no longer opens and reads visited pages - i figured
it was corrupted and wanted to delete it then restart my system and
have it automatically replaced. i tried deleting it as an admin and
in safe mode and no dice. i'm not sure what to do next... any ideas?
