How do I create Email merge in Outlook based on data in Excel?

I would like to create a customized Email in Outlook by refering back to data
in my Excel sheet (such as First Name, Last Name, Date of contact, etc.)

Don't know where I start from (either from Excel or from Outlook)? Your help
is greatly appreciated.
 
Assuming all the data is in Excel, just start a mail merge from Word.
