How do I create a search box - that works!!

Hi - I have just tried to create a search box and followed the instructions
the the letter and when I published the site the search box doesn't appear
just the words "search component file". Can anyone tell me what I am doing
wrong?
 
The search component requires the Frontpage server extensions.
Check with your host that these are installed (or resintall/check them
through your control panel if applicable).
