I'm using Outlook 97 with windows XP standard. I recently upgraded to the 90
day trial version of Office 2003, which I found made my computer too unstable
(particularly in Outlook) so I exported my contacts as a .pst file,
uninstalled all of 2003 and reinstalled the 97 suite. I then imported the
..pst file, which shows up in my Contacts folder in its entirety, but not at
all in my address book. I tried the Contacts-Properties-Outlook Address
Book, but it doesn't allow me any options (it's all greyed out). I know a
..pab is different from the contacts list, but I can't find anything to help
me convert all these contacts into a .pab. I can still send emails to these
contacts by clicking on them individually, but what I really need is an
address book! Please help!

Is the Outlook Address Book service shown here: Tools menu > Services?

No, Services is not listed as any option under Tools or any of the submenus
under tools (which include Find, Accounts, Address Book, Send/Receive, etc.)

OK, check in the Mail applet of the Control Panel and see if you can add it
there

That basically gives me the same menus as the Tools inside outlook. Every
time I try adding a new directory (Personal Address Book) under Email
accounts (which seemed the logical thing to do) it keeps giving me the same
error message -- "The account you have added is not fully configured. It
might not work properly until re-configured correctly." Okay, fine. But HOW
do I reconfigure it? It would be nice if they mentioned that part! Instead
it just doesn't let me go any further in the process and that's where I hit
the brick wall.

You really don't need to add the Personal Address Book service. You'll
probably be better served by the Outlook Address Book which dynamically
creates the address book from your Contacts. I'm just wondering if OL2003
left stuff around that's mucking up the OL97 configuration. Have you tried
creating a fresh MAPI profile in the Control Panel's Mail applet?

Actually I did. It started off pretty promising, but ultimately the same
thing happened in the end, without my being able to create any kind of
contacts folders I can access from my address book, even though all the
contacts are still intact in the Contacts folder in the Outlook menu.
