How do I create a downloadable file?

Specifically, I want to be able to put content such as an E-Book on my web
site that can be downloaded by a customer visiting the site and clicking a
download button.

If users have Adobe Reader installed, the E-book will open in their reader.
They would have to save a copy using File...Save a Copy. If you want them to
download the E-book 'automatically' when the button is clicked, zip the
material and link to the zip file. They will be prompted with a dialog box
to Open or Save.

If they have Adobe (or any other PDF reader installed) they don't have to do
a File | Save as, they can also right click, save target as or save link as,
depending on the browser.

You're normally of the bent to right click buttons and 'save target as' or
'save link as'?? My suggestion was simply to click the button and when it
opened in the PDF reader save a copy. I believe right clicking buttons is
less intuitive, but to each his own.

It's less clicking though.
