How do I copy a contact into a new folder?

This has to be simple, but I cannot do it. I want to create a new folder
(which I have done) and copy names and addresses into it, but I want to leave
my main contact list intact. I can move the information, but I cannot just
copy it. I have downloaded the help information and followed it, but I can't
make it work. Any suggestions?

As an alternative to Judy's advice, you can also select the contacts and
then click Edit>Copy to Folder.
