How do I convert a color chart and/or table into grayscale?

In Microsoft Powerpoint 2003, I was able to right click on the tables
and charts at which point, the grayscale menu came up. It allowed me
to convert it to inverse grayscale or any of the other grayscale
functions. Now I have 2007 and that menu exists but it's whited out. I
can't do anything.

The way charts are created and handled in PPT has changed hugely from 2003 to
2007. It seems that a few things got lost along the way and this is one of
them. I do believe you've found a bug. I'll pass this along to someone at MS.

For now, here's a trick:

Once the chart's the way you want it, select it, copy it, shrink it and move it
off the slide temporarily, then on the Home tab, choose Paste, Paste Special
and pick Metafile or Enhanced Metafile.

The text in the pasted graphic will look like the dog's digestive system
couldn't handle it. No worries. Ungroup it all a time or two, then regroup.
Now the text will look good AND you'll be able to change the grayscale
settings.

The shrunken original off to the side? That's in case you need to go back and
edit the chart again.
