There was a time when I could:
1. Connect my NV-GS35 to the PC
2. Copy DV tapes from camera to .avi files on PV (using the Panasonic
Software)
3 . Edit the files, using either the Panasonic software or Ulead Software
4. Create a DVD which plays on both the PC and stand-alone player (connected
to TV), again using either the Panasonic software or Ulead Software,
although I preferred Ulead as I got better editing facilities.
Now I cannot do any of these.
Step 1. is impossible. I get the message "Video device not connected."
I connect via the supplied USB cord to a spare USB2 port.
I tried both the PC mode and the playback mode on the camera.
I tried restarting the PC with the camera on and off.
Out of all these, what do I suspect?
The USB port? (It is a 4 port hub which works on the other ports).
The camera settings?
The way I connect - either with the camera on or off or with restarting or
not restarting the PC?
The operating system (XP Home SP2) - doesn't it want to recognise the camera
as an external device any more ?
And - a question no-one can answer - why does it have to be so difficult ?
The manufacturers give lots of hype about easy to transfer, edit and create
DVDs,
BUT IT AIN'T.
I am now limited to copying the DV tapes to VHS tapes on my VHS recorder.
This is very limiting as I have no editing facilities
What can I do ?
What have others done?
Where is the rubbish bin to put the software/hardware into?
