How can I compress pictures in a slide show so that the slideshow is not so,large? I want to keep the pictures full screen with the best clarity I can get. Is this a fundtion of Powerpoint, or must I compress them prior to inserting them.

If you are using PPT 2002 or 2003, you can compress your pictures from
within the program. In the edit interface, bring up a slide with one of the
pictures. Right click the picture and select "Format Picture". Click the
Picture tab. Towards the bottom of that tab is a Compress button. Click it.
You can select options to compress all pictures or just the selected ones,
as well as what resolution you want and what you want removed from the
picture. Once you have set the options, click OK and the pictures will
compress. OK your way out, save the file and it should be smaller. If it
isn't, check to see if you have "Fast Saves" turned on
(Tools-->Options-->Save tab)... If it is checked, uncheck it, ok your way
out and save the file under a new name. The file should then shrink down.

(By the way: The fast saves thing applies to all versions of PPT.)
Let us know how it goes!

Okay, then you will need to resort to a solution outside of the main PPT
program. Several suggestions and ideas can be found in this PPT FAQ entry:

Thanks Kathy, but I presently only have Powerpoint 2000. Is there anything
I can do there short of upgrading to Office 2003 or XP. If I need to
upgrade, which is the re better choice. I am running XP on a Dell tower less
than 1 year old.

trying to insert pictures into a PP (2003)....picture is too large. Tried
formatting picture, compressing, etc....does not change or do anything. Help!

Try "JPeg Optimizer". It's free and works great....simple to use and fast.

I have moved a power point from our apple to our dell PC. Two questions:

How do I compress on the Apple version of power point

Secondly, after I moved the presentation to use the compress function you
suggested, it doesn't seem to compress.
