How do I communicate with a com port from VBA in Access?

I am developing an interface to MS access VBA to communicate with an
equipment that connects to a com port. The equipment responds to commands
sent from VBA. A simple example would be that the equipment is a digital
clock that connects to a PC on com port. The user would click a botton on a
form that would send a series of ascii charaters as command to the clock,
which in turn would send the time in as ascii charaters. How do I communicate
to a com port.
