How do I clear an old document? from reappearing when I open new

When I open up a new worrd document, an old letter keeps reappearing. I have
rebooted my computer several times. Even when I select a new document, the
same letter appears.
 
Sounds like you have the file saved in your Word Startup Folder. You can find
where that Folder is by going to Tools|Options|File Locations. There will be
a location for Startup. Navigate to that folder using the Windows Explorer.
Open it and see if there is a file in there. If so, move or Delete it.
It's also possible that you saved the letter into your Normal.dot. In this
case, you need to find Normal.dot and open it. Try doing a Windows Search
(assuming you are using Windows) for Normal.dot. Be sure to include hidden
files and folders. Delete any text that appears in it.
