Hi there,
I wish to buy an external CD-RW, which requires a USB
interface at 2.0 to allow it to run at maximum speed.
How do I find out if it is 2.0 or 1.1?
Many thanks

considering that USB2.0 is only about 10months old....how old is your system??
read the manual that came with your system it should tell you.
Go to the website of the manufacturer of your system and do a search using the model number

Read the motherboard manual or search the web for mb model. Since you
failed to provide and USEFUL information mabey some mindreader or physics in
the newsgroup will be able to help you. For a fee for sure.

Check with computer vendor or consult the manual for the specifications
for your computer. If the specs say USB 2 then...

First, you must have XPSP1 from Windows Update installed for USB2
support. Secondly, go to Start/Control Panel/System/Hardware Tab/Device
Manager Button. Expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers. If you
see Standard Universeral PCI to USB Host Controllers, you have USB
(formerly called USB 1.1) controllers currently installed.

After you install XPSP1, you can remove a host controller from device
manager. Reboot, and look again. If the controller now says
Enhanced... then it is Hi-Speed USB (formerly called USB 2). If it
still says Standard..., you will have to find a Hi-Speed USB (USB 2)
controller card to add to your system.
