How do I change the default location downloaded files are saved to?

When you first use IE 6 to download files, it will ask
you for the default directory where you want to save
downloaded files. How do I change this setting? I can't
find it anywhere.

When I left click on a file, it automatically saves it to
c:\download. If I right click and select save as and
point it to d:\download, which is where I really want it,
it then will download to d:\download.

Then if I left click on a file, it automatically
downloads to c:\download again. It does not remember
that I wanted it in d:\download.

IE uses the last location. Change it next time you download a file.

In
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.browser, "James"

Look in this key for the string value named "Download Directory" (or create it
if necessary). Change its data to the path required.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

It should give you the chance to change it.
If not, then try this:

You set this for each file type, e.g. for .zip
Explorer-View-Folder Options-File Types
Find the .zip association (may be WinZip File)
Edit, (or click Advanced on ME or XP) and check the "Confirm open
after download" box

The path to Folder Options may vary according to your operating
system. It may be:
Explorer-View-Folder Options
Explorer-Tools-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Control Panel-Folder options.

Another option is to change it in the Registry.
Start-Run-REGEDIT
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
The value to change is "Download Directory"
