How do I change numbers with characters?

I am doing a survey. I want to include serial number on the questionnaires
to be able to match it with past records in my database but I do not want my
potential respondents to know it so as not to influence their responses. Can
I represent the numbers in Access with symbols or shapes (For example: 1234
to !#+&)? I'll appreciate any help.
