How do I change my text cursor icon back to normal?

My text cursor has changed from a vertical line to a large square black box.
How do I change it back?

Before anybody can address your question, or direct you to the correct
newsgroup, more information is needed.
Is the changed cursor seen in all applications or just one? Which
application(s). What version and edition of Windows are you running?

The cursor is changed in all text input boxes on Windows XP and Internet Explorer. It also affects Notepad documents, but not MS Word. Automatic updates are enabled so I am running the current edition of XP Home edition.
