how do I change default editing options in word 2007?

Every time I open a document or restart word 2007, I have to go back into the
options and tell it once again NOT to select the entire word. How can I
change this option and make it stay changed?

Assuming that you are using a stand-alone computer, try deleting the Data key in Word; see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissingMenusEtc.htm.

On the other hand, if you are on a corporate network, you may be prevented from saving changes to the Word Options.
