I added a new hard drive,( now have 2 in the same tower)
it has been formatted and partitioned but how do I set
the bios to boot the new hard drive?
Thanks in advance
.
There are several ways of doing this.
First, when installing a second hard drive, check your
jumper settings. Make sure that the hard drive you want
to be your boot drive is set to MASTER, and the second
drive is set to SLAVE.
Alternatively, you could choose to use CABLE SELECT (CS).
If you do, set the jumpers on both hard drives to CS.
Then, make sure that the boot drive is connected to the
end connector of the ribbon cable and the slave drive is
connected to the middle connector. That way, the ribbon
cable decides which drive will boot first.
If your BIOS is set to AUTO, the above 2 suggestions will
take care of everything. If, when you turn on your
computer, the system seeks your drives, it is already set
to AUTO and you need not touch BIOS.
If you need to go into BIOS, the first option on the main
menu will take you to the drive options. Set both drives
to AUTO.
You can also choose the DETECT HARD DRIVES menu option
and follow screen instructions to do it.
If you go into BIOS to do these things, remember to EXIT
AND SAVE CHANGES.
Hope this helps.
