How do I burn to DVD?

Is burning to DVD just like burning to CD?

So if I copy some docs and paste them into a DVD window, then click "write
these files to CD/DVD", should that work?

Or are the rules different for DVDs?

Cheers,

XP does not have a built-in ability to burn to DVD. Refer to the Help
file of whatever third-party DVD burning program you have installed for
instructions.

If you don't have a third-party burning program installed, you will need
to get one. Here is a free one:

thanks for the reply,

I've tried using Nero Burning Rom, which allows me to switch from CD to DVD,
but although I'm using the correct type of DVD (-R), it says the disc is not
writable.

I've tried with 6-7 different blank discs, all from the same batch. Could it
be a bad batch, or is it more likely to be my hardware?

I have two PCs, configured exactly the same, and they both report the same
problem.

Since two different drives in two different computers exhibit identical
behavior, it is likely that your blank disks (media) are incompatible with
your drives.
Unfortunate Fact of Life: Some CD burners, and many DVD burners, are VERY
picky about the Brand of media that they will recognize/burn to. Visit the
website(s) of the manufacturers of your DVD burner(s) and learn what
Brand(s) of DVD media are compatible/recommended for use with your
burner(s).
Good luck,
Steve

Are you sure you have a DVD burner? Having the correct DVD-burning software
is only half of the equation.

The DVD drive must be able to accept the media. You MUST make sure that you
use the correct media that the DVD drive can accept.

Do you actually have a DVD -RW drive?

Basically yes, but XP just does not have it. Vista will.
