How can I burn a dvd when my dvd burner doesn't even recognize that i have a cd in there? I was told I need to format the dvd cd; but I don't even know how to do that either. Can someone please help me on this; I would really like to understand my maching. thanks.

Hi, What software are you using to burn DVD's? Windows
XP doesnt include any software to do so. The best thing
to do is contact the maker of the software you happen to
be using.

Also, formatting CDs/DVD's is not needed for writing.

Check the Ahead site to see if your DVD burner is listed as compatible with
any of their programs or only some.

I recently installed a new DVD burner and Nero was only able to work with
DVD+R disks on this particular model. This surprised me as the unit had
shipped with Nero (Express only which did work but did not work with
rewritable media). Had to switch back to Roxio to get full support for all
media types. I much prefer Nero to Roxio but went with the software that
provided the support for the hardware I have installed.

Be sure to update the Nero software to the very latest version so that your
burner is recognized as being a DVD burner. Are you using the correct form
of blank DVD media for your burner? For example, is it +R or -R media? You
keep using the term "CD" and "DVD" interchangeably so I wonder if you are
perhaps making a really simple mistake there.

Ian.
