Select the thumbnails you want to scan and then press the big green
button marked "Scan". ;-)

I get this far OK. But then when I start chosing thumbnails to scan,
I can only highlight one at a time. Is there some keystroke
combination that I am failing to preform?

The same as most Windows applications - use Ctrl or Shift keys.

Hold down the Ctrl key while clicking the thumbnails to add them one at
a time to the batch or
Click the first thumbnail you want then hold down the Shift key and
click the last one you want to add them and all of the images between to
the batch.
To select All of the thumbnails press Ctrl-A.
To deselect any individual thumbnail press Ctrl and click it.
To deselect a group of thumbnails press Ctrl and click the first, then
press Ctrl and Shift and click on the next thumbnail you wish to keep in
the batch - all thumbnails between will be deselected.

These are keystrokes that are worth remembering because they are
applicable to most other Windows applications, from File Explorer to
Word.

Thanks Kennedy,
I finally got the hang of it.

How do i get the Nikon SA-21 to work???

I'm having no luck just getting the software to recognize the scanner attachment or in giving me any options to scan.
