I would like to have a gradient background for all my slides in a
presentation I am making in powerpoint 2000, and I would like the colors
to cycle so that I get an animated effect.
How do I do this?

Many thanks for any help anyone can give.
Margo Guda.

I usually don't make judgments on design approaches or wishes, but I can't
help myself this time. To try to animate a gradient background with
changing colors, even if you could, would probably cause performance
problems in your presentation and vision and attention problems in the
audience. I am not a fan of animated backgrounds of any type, because
repetitive animations on every slide are annoying and distract from the
information and the message you are trying to deliver. I'm trying to
envision an animated gradient and keep geting woozy just thinking about it.

That's just my biased opinion and admittedly not very constructive or
helpful. Hopefully someone else will come along to give you some actual
help.

In my presentation this would be an integral part; for instance in a
story about wind energy I would want the cycling gradient to suggest the
wind; or when talking about the ocean I would want the background to
suggest the rolling waves. Also, I think this can be done without too
much distraction if the brightness of the background is adjusted.

I hope someone out there knows how to do it.

Hi Margo,

I agree too Sonia's opinion about animated backgrounds (except for title
slides, maybe).

But I made some suggestions recently to someone asking about flash
animations in background (which is not possible; animated GIFs might work,
but they tend to be large), but perhaps you might be able to find that post
with Google.

Kind regards,
Ute

Don't know how to make the animations. But if it's not possible to place
them in backgrounds why don't you make a animation (in a slide wide
rectangle) and place it on the slide with the lowest order. Or in the
master.
