How do I add program icons to the task bar

I would like to add some program icons to my taskbar
but have been unable to find any information on how
to do it.
Any information you could give me would be appricated.

Drag & paste from desktop to taskbar

If you the Quick Launch area of the Taskbar, unlock the Taskbar, then drag.
If you meant the Notification Area of the Taskbar, see line 159:
