I want to add a subreport that has 4 columns to a report that has 2 columns.
When I do this, the subreport is reformatted into 2 columns. I am using
Access 2000.
Is there a way that I can maintain the 4 columns once the subreport is added
to the report?

Where do you have the subreport?

You can not make the subreport display across the main
report's full width unless it is in the main report's
header/footer section. The subreport's display width will
be constrained to the main report's column width. If the
subreport's width is small enough to fit in the main
report's column width, then it will work quite well.

Thanks, but I don't think this addresses my issue.
I have a subreport that has 4 columns. I can make the subreport so that it
is not as wide as the report. I add the subreport to the report in a Group
Footer. The subreport then displays the same number of columns as the report.
I tried by making the report only 1 column wide, the whole page, then the
subreport became 1 column wide.

Make the sub report so that it is an independent stand alone report.
Format the sub report any way you want.
Open the main report in design mode.
In the top menu bar, click on Window\Tile Vertically.
In the right hand pane, click on the report tab.
Left click and hold on the subreport.
Hold the control <ctrl> key down.
Drag the subreport to the footer where you want it to appear.
Delete the label that will come with it.
Adjust the size to full width of the main report.
Set can grow and can shrink to yes.

Just a wizard prodder

I haven't seen any mention of the fact that multi-column subreports should
be formatted to display Across Then Down. You can work around this by not
allowing a subreport to grow.

I still get the same result. The subreport number of columns is redefined to
be the same as the report.
I have even made sure that the total width of all my subreport columns and
distance between columns does not exceed the total width of a report column.
Thanks

Do you mind telling us if the subreport columns go Across then Down or Down
then Across?

They were going down then across. I changed them per your suggestion and now
I get the columns OK. So, now, I am in process of seeing if across then down
will display results that are easy to read. I believe this may work. Thanks
for you help.

Excellent catch Duane, I had misunderstood the subreport
displaying two columns part of the problem.
