I use outlook 2002 and recently set up a small wireless home network, (2
pcs/1 laptop), using a router/modem. How can I access outlook from the remote
units?

Diane, thanks for your prompt reply. Sorry for my delayed responce. I'm
disappointed that outlook does not have this facility, espescially given all
the hipe about home networking these days. I've looked at the alternatives
and they are too costly for a simple LAN. I guess I shall have to wait for
mircosoft to update outlook in consideration for the HOME user.. Thanks

you;d need to log in using remote access - outlook doesn't support using the
mail data across a network unless you use a 3rd party program made for
sharing.

mail too)

Hi Norm,
I've looked at the alternatives
and they are too costly for a simple LAN

have a look on this article for additional freeware solution:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011477571033.aspx

Most of them are not as comfortable as the 3rd party solutions (my meaning),
but they could be an alternativ and helpfull.

I was wondering if anyone can provide me with advice or links to help me with
kinda the same thing. I have a two story home and three computer systems with
a highspeed, router, etc and I was wondering if I could be able to share and
get into the same files for things like, outlook, office 2003, quicken,
etc.,? I am sure everyone can understand how many times we wanted to just
look something up real fast but the computer you are at at that time is the
wrong UGGGG. Any advice on home networking and sharing like this please let
me know. Thanks everyone and I hope everyone has a great Holiday Season.

if the application supports networked access, you can designate one computer
as a sever and it can 'share' the files - outlook's data files are for
single users though- you'll need a 3rd party app to share outlook data. for
a single user or family - msn premium is often the best way to calendar
share.

Thank you so much for the info. Is there anyway or perhaps someone else would
be willing to speak with me via email? I have a few questions about the whole
Home Networking Thing and I dont think I am using mine to its best. I would
be very greatful to anyone that would be willing to be my "MENTOR" or
"COMPUTER GOD" :) Please let me know. Thanks again.

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.networking.wireless
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.win2000.networking
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsxp.network_web
are likely resources. There are also many articles in the Microsoft
Knowledgebase on how to make good use of a home network.

I did what the posting further down did. I moved the '.pst' file to a
network drive and then can access them by going to file..open outlook
file..then pointing to the file on the network drive. He is right you do have
to rename the .pst file in outlook on the parent file. I copied it do the nw
drive then renamed it 'lar' or nic' 'laroutlook/......pst' see? That enables
you to open any file on the net drive. Make sure your network is using high
encryption etc. Because the file has to be enabled to be seen by anyone
WITHOUT needing a password. I have a separate outlook for each kid in each
profile and all the files successfully are stored and accessable. Inc
calendar. mail tasks etc. You cannot have one open on more than one machine
at a time. This would also work on you rmain computer if you made a folder on
the drive and shared it to all then moved the files there. Of course it would
have to be on to work. Thats as far as I have got. good luck

I forgot to say the .pst files are hidden you need to ask outlook help 'file
location' and it will lead you through opening up hidden files keep looking
they are there!
