I have followed the instructions given in help about attaching news to the go
button but to no avail. There is no icon attached to the news command

Geoffrey,

I believe the instructions say to customize your tool bar with the "News"
located in the "Go" category. After you add this to your tool bar, clink on
the new icon and it should prompt you through the setup of your news group
server information. I just leaned this over the weekend and had no
problems, (as my ability to reply to this post proves) ;)

I followed the step by step instructions. However when I try to drag news to
the go command group I notice there is a cross indicating that it is not
permitted. I also notice the news command has no icon. I can get the
newsgroups through outlook express with no problem

To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If
OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch
it, clear the "Always perform this check..." box and then click the No
button.

You may need to reset the Menu Bar and/or restart Outlook and/or reboot your
machine in order to complete the process. Not everyone is reporting success
with this method, but try it and see what happens. If all else fails, you
can always create a desktop shortcut to Outlook Express and include the
/outnews switch -- that gives you the same result as accessing the
newsreader via the News command in Outlook.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After furious head scratching, Geoffrey asked:
