How do enable the SET via Recovery Console if it wasn't turned on with GUI

I have a Windows 2K Professional install. The HD is
corrupted and the only way I can get to my files is
booting up via the W2K Install CD and using the Recovery
Console. I need to do a set command to allow me to copy my
critical files to the A: drive. But to enable this, you
need to use one of the GUI security policy apps only
available in W2K.

Can this be changed any other way? Perhaps by a command
with parameters while in the Recovery Console?

Thanks in advance.

Try slaving the hard drive in another Windows 2000 computer... or reinstall
windows 2000 onto a new hard drive on the original computer.

No, this cannot be done from within the recovery console. (Think about it;
it would be kinda silly if you could do this.)

You can install W2K to another folder on the same drive to gain access to
the filesystem, or put the drive in another machine as Karl suggested.

Thanks Karl. I have tried the slaving but ended up with a
mess after it associated the MBR to the defective drive.
Luckily, I got it all back.

I will just try to install W2K into another directory.

Actually, I should be able to copy my personal files to a
floppy regardless of where they exist on the HD. I have
supplied all of the security credentials.

I plan on installing W2K into another directory. Thanks
for the suggestion.
