I am trying to embed a number of .avi animations into ppt slides. The program
is clearly linking the animations not embedding them in the ppt file. I
cannot find a control to allow me to embed rather than link.

What should I do?

Thanks for looking

Nothing to do, that is how PowerPoint works and it can't be changed. All
media files are linked, never embedded.

Dear Austin
Understand that.
What I need to do is to email the ppt/pps file with six large linked avi
files. Do I have to use the presentation cd route, or will it work with the
avi's in the same directory as the ppt file?

Thanks for the prompt reply

To distribute a PPT with media you must have the media in the same folder as
the presentation BEFORE inserting it on the slide. If you have already
inserted it from a location other than the presentation folder you will have
to delete them and re-insert them AFTER moving them to the right folder. If
you don't they will fail on the other PCs.

Once that is accomplished you can then zip the entire contents of the folder
and send it as an attachment. When your receiving party gets the email they
MUST unzip all the contents in to a folder with a short path name. I
suggest "C:\test" or some other short name. Unpacking to the desktop and
trying to play the presentation will fail about 50% of the time so make
mention of it to your email recipient.

Dear Austin

Thank you. I tried it, it works and it's reliable when i follow these
instructions. I could not find this in the help system. Was I being dim, or
is it not there?

Anyway, thanks a lot, you just made a whole class of students happy as well
as letting me get off to bed!

The avi files (and other media files) are not embedded they are "linked" -
problem is then that you can not move the ppt file.

In 2003 you can "save the file for transport" (or something like that) - but
that option is not in 2007. My question is then:
How do I move my ppt. + media files in one step without breaking the
links...
