How delete icon/program in taskbar?

There's an icon in the taskbar (bottom right) on this Win-XP-pro PC. The
icon is called Wild Tangent (a purple rounded W), relates to son's games on
the PC. It sometimes causes a small slow-upward-rising pop-up, about size
of a matchbook.

How can I permanently delete this from showing up at all in the taskbar (but
save the icon in case for any reason want to restore later?). And not
destroy functionality/usability of any of the games?

I tried right clicking, and there IS an *Exit* option, but the icon shows up
again after re-booting. There are not any options like *Setup* that would
allow something like a checkbox to "not show in task bar."

Thanks,
George

Whatever game it supports, go into it, and see if there is "any" option to
NOT have it run and show in the systray...

Now, having said that, some software does not allow one to remove icons from
the systray unless the software is uninstalled...

Start>Run>msconfig>ok
Now click Startup uncheck the application from the list>ok/apply.
Restart your system.

I think Wild Tangent is spyware that was probably installed by one of those
games. I'd run one of the /adware/spyware programs such as ad-aware and
let it get rid of it.
