how DC works?

Hi,
How DC works? Its not like vnc, its like export screen in unix?
I find out some differences when I worked to install and run some software
remotely under admin and when not remote.
How it instatiates the system variables and other objects?
Thanks for a link with detailed info and limitations about DC.
