Hi,
please help.

I use a desktop pc at office, internet connected via campus network.
WINS enabled. My PC is in the group named "workgroup".

I use another pC at home and want to access the files on my office pC.
I put my home pc in a group also named "workgroup" and set up the WINS
address on my home pC. Besides doing this, what else should I do so
that I can access the files on my office pc via netbios.

Thanks a lot,
Dan

Dan,

Does your work have a firewall or a VPN server? If they do have a
firewall, then more than likely you will not be able to directly access
your work pc from your home PC, regardless of having Netbios name
resolution. In this case, I would recommend connecting to your corporate
network via a VPN (virtual private network). If you had a VPN connection,
then you should be able to access your work PC files as long as the VPN
server/client and file and print sharing is setup properly. Another option
might be to setup an FTP server on your home machine so that at the end of
the day at work, you could transfer files to your home computer. You would
need to make sure that you knew the IP address of your home machine
(assuming that you have some sort of high-speed internet) and that you have
the appropriate ports open to your home computer.
