I just started using Outlook. I have all my contacts in the Contacts file.
However, there is nothing in the Outlook Address Book. AND, when I insert a
contact my typing their name into the "To:" box Outlook does not
automatically insert the names and addresses. In addition, if I click on the
notebook next to the "To:" and try to insert people that way, it doesn't show
them having an e-mail address even though I have their e-mail address with
all their other information in my "Contacts" folder.

Linda,

Your address options may not be setup correctly or the email address may not
be in the correct field. When you open your contacts do you see the email
address in the correct field?

Also check your address book options by Tools - Address Book - Tools-
Options. Contacts should be listed as the location to keep personal
contacts and should be listed at the top of the list for checking address.

Regards,

I have the identical problem. I am also a new Outlook user. It was bad
enough to discover that it won't download headers only for HTTP mail
accounts... but this weird contact thing is driving me crazy! I have checked
everything suggested by Francine and all is okay. But it still won't
function properly.

What have you checked?
What isn't working?
If you are expecting autocompletion to use your Contacts, then you
misunderstood the feature. It uses a cache of names derived from messages
you have already sent, not your Contacts.

I checked what all Francine said to check, in her post to Linda. That is, to
check that the email address was entered in the correct field in Contacts and
to check the address book thing in Tools - Address Book - Tools - Optiions.
I have looked at the information in Address Book and in Contacts and it's the
same. But it still won't auto-complete my email addresses, it will only
auto-complete if I have sent an email to the particular person. Now where is
THAT information being stored? All of this was an awful lot easier to manage
in IncrediMail or Outlook Express -- is Outlook a "lower" email program that
those two?

Your question was answered in my post. The information is stored in a file
with the name of your profile and an NK2 extension. Not sure why that
matters since it won't change anything.

Whew,

Reading these threads have meconfused.....

If you want the autocomplete file to become populated (up to 1,000 names)
keep your eyes open for our new utility. It is currently known as Owtlook
but the current version does not have an import utility, althought there is
a cumbersome workaround to create new entries in your autocomplete NK2 file.
If you buy Owtlook now, you'll be eligible for the free upgrade when the new
product is released in a couple of weeks.

However, in all honesty, I'm not exactly certain from reading this post and
the associated threads that that is what you are seeking...
