Using WinXP-pro. When use the Network Wizard, it fails near the end and
gives a "Spooler SubSystem App has encountered a problem..." error. Trying
to correct this.

Microsoft #810894 points to a printer installation problem. Have Linksys
router and print server, called them, Linksys agrees, spooler is a printer
issue, and also indicated Epson drivers might be involved, need to search
out an uninstall. (It's muddled, but this new PC seems to have inherited
some driver stuff somehow, and a previous PC had an Epson printer.

There are NO epson printers on menu, or port configurations, and don't see
drivers. But a text search on "Epson" brings up a dozen or two files like
the ones below. Got any ideas on how to correct this and/or purge Epson out
of system and not cause havoc or massive printer re-installs? Thanks.

EXAMPLES OF FILES THAT SHOW UP WITH "EPSON"

------------C:\I386\COMPDATA\EPSPHOTO.TXT------------------

The following Epson printers, which might have been installed on your
system, might not function properly under Microsoft Windows XP using the
printer drivers that are currently installed:

EPSON Stylus COLOR 440
EPSON Stylus COLOR 740
EPSON Stylus Photo 750
EPSON Stylus Photo
EPSON Stylus Photo 700
EPSON Stylus Photo EX
EPSON Stylus COLOR 640

If you uninstall this driver before upgrade, Windows XP Setup will install a
compatible driver.

To obtain a more recent version of this printer driver, visit the
manufacturer's Web site at

Have you tried removing all printers located under
printers and faxes? If youre using XP's new look it
should be right under the start menu, otherwise it will
be under start, settings, printers and faxes.

You may also want to try a selective startup. Go to
start, run and type: msconfig. uncheck load startup items
and then go to the tab that says 'services' and put a
check in the box at the very bottom of the screen that
says 'hide all microsoft services' and then uncheck
everything left over. Click OK when youre done and you
will be prompted to reboot youre computer. Doing this
will keep applications and services you do not need from
running in the background when your computer starts. This
may also keep the printer from starting in the background
and interferring.

After your computer reboots you will get a message youre
in a selective startup (which is good). Try running the
network wizard again and see if you still get the same
error.
