anywhere on the box what revision it is?
That would make it too easy. Imagine the customers sorting through
the boxes, leaving the 1.00 release boards behind. To prevent
"cherry picking", the release is not on the outside of the box.
You might get some idea, however, from the date code on the outside
of the box. But, unless there was some noteworthy improvement, where
a bunch of people indicated what date code was on their box, you
won't be able to figure it out on your own. The first two characters
of the serial number are year_digit month_char. A board made this
month would be 53xxxxxxxxx, December of last year 4Cxxxxxxxxxx,
where the x's are the rest of the digits. AFAIK.
This info is only going to help if you are shopping in person,
as very few online vendors will help you get the "latest and
greatest". After all, they have to sell all the boards in
inventory.
