A Newbie here..

(While logged in as Administrator) After downloading & installing files last week I went to clear the IE temp files in the "Tools" >> "Internet Options" menu and was greeted by a Restrictions window

"This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.

OK, I give. How can the Administrator be restricted on anything, and how do I reverse the problem

(Nothing like being demoted by your own computer... ;o

Always search www.google.com for the error message. I'm sure it's there. I
recall it being a registry value you can change. This error has nothing to
do with whether you're a local admin or not, but about IE settings.

This can also be caused by the use of Spybot. If you are using this software, make sure that the "Lock IE Settings" setting in the "Immunize" section is disabled.

BINGO

Gehenna, you were right on target with SpyBot. Thank you

What do you think of SypBot--thumbs up or down

Thumbs up, generally, although it can be a little overzealous - and I don't
really like the immunize feature due to issues such as this that can confuse
people. I use Spybot and Adaware on lots of computers and generally the use
of both will rid a PC of all the spyware crapola.
