How can "on click" behave like "after previous?"

I have used both "on click" and "after previous" many many times and I have
a pretty good idea how they work. I was looking at another person's
presentation that has automatic transition with most of the animation set at
"on click," nothing for "after previous." However, when I ran the show, I
never had to click. All the animation effects display automatically as if
they were set at "after previous." I couldn't understand what might have
caused this. I did "copy cat" on one slide and I had to click. Totally
lost.

The presentation was not done by an experienced person and I didn't have to
look for anything that was hidden or fancy. By the way, the show is a
stand-alone.

Any ideas what is going on here? I find this interesting.

If you have automatic slide transitions set up, then "on-click" is
ignored and all the animations become automatic as well.

Wow! Something this simple and I didn't know until now. Learning everyday.

Wish I posted earlier instead of spending all that time wondering, testing,
pulling my hair ...... :)

On a serious note, I think it is good habit to change to "after previous"
just in case I want to remove automatic transition. This way the animation
will always be automatic, right?

Thank you David.
