How Can I use my tv as a monitor through S -video on XP Home Editi

I've got a tv, a laptop running XP Home, and they're connected w/ an S video,
but I can't get anything to happen. I just want to use the TV as a monitor
to watch movies. I've tried using the Device Manager, in which I have
Generic TV listed, as well as the Display option in my control panel, but l'm
getting no results. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Do you get anything playing on media player on your laptops screen?
As it's a laptop, it is doubtful the units graphic's chip can output both
the required resolution settings at same time, You may find you have
to activate the S-video output.
Most graphics adapters have an entry in Control Panel where you can
configure such output options.

First, you need to enable the display. On my Toshiba, I press F5 and I
pick LCD, LCD/TV, LCD/CRT, etc... You might find a DISPLAY tab if you
right click on the deskto and select PROPERTIES.
Second, with WinXP, you'll only get a blue screen on the TV, instead
of something in the Media Player window. (This is due to overlaying).
You need to disable Hardware Acceleration, found on the
TROUBLESHOOTING tab on the DISPLAY properties.
I watch on my TV all the time this way.
