How can i unlock vista after evaluation has blocked start up. to
extend the evaluation.

I didnt know it was a 30 day valuation...duh.
So on a start up it now asks me for the serial number to continue.
i heard there is a way to extend the evaluation period by entering a
message in the cmd but how can i get to the cmd if it doesnt start up?
Vista say if i doint have a serial then i can run the start up cd but
how can i get the cd to boot up at start up.
Thank you for any help sorry if it too basic.

You don't do it "window start up".

You do it when your computer's POST is finished (and before Windows starts).

1) Maker sure the boot-order in your BIOS settings is set to boot to the DVD
drive FIRST.
2) Save your revised BIOS settings
3) Place the Vista DVD in the drive
4) Restart your machine
5) When a message appears on screen saying "Press any key to boot from
CD/DVD", press "Enter"
6) The Vista installer will begin.
7) When the installer asks for your key, DON'T enter one.
8) Choose "Custom Installation"

You should be able to take it from there..

do the activate by internet explorer then in the addybar type c:\ the browse
to c:\windows and find taskmanger tsk something from what i rember. next
(once taskmanger open) go to file run and type explorer. whola your desktop

I've been looking for that damn key for years and I still can't find
it!

But somehow I've gotten the spacebar to work in place of it. ;-)

From task manager, click File > New Taks (Run...)

Type 'cmd' without the quotes.

In the new command prompt, type 'slmgr -rearm' without the quotes.

Interesting commands, including -rearm and -cpky. For those of you afraid
that your product key might be stolen because it can be read from the
registry without a UAC prompt need not fear. Run slmgr -cpky.

Global Options:

-ipk <Product key>
Install product key (replaces existing key)

-upk
Uninstall product key

-ato
Activate Windows

-dli[Activation ID|All]
Display license information (default: current license)
-dlv[Activation ID|All]
Display detailed license information (default: current license)

-xpr
Expiration date for current license state

Advanced Options:
-cpky
Clear product key from the registry (prevents disclosure attacks)

-ilc <license file>
Install license

-rilc
Reinstall system license files

-rearm
Reset the licensing status of the machine

-dti
Display Installation ID for offline activation

-apt<Confirmation ID>
Activate product with user-provided Confirmation ID
