Hello, Not sure this is the right place to ask but here goes
I have been experiencing a lot of problems lately with crashes on my computer, A blue screen appears with all kinds of messages and numbers saying it is dumping my physical memory. Everything then freezes on the computer the only way out of this is to switch the computer off via the on/off switch
When I reboot a message comes up telling me the computer has just recovered from a serious error and if i would like to automatically report it to microsoft which i always do. Another screen pops up then telling me i can view the cause of the problem if I wish. The only info this screen gives when i look into it is that a device driver has caused the error and reinstalling it may remedy the fault, it goes on to say it might be the modem or the virus protector, even the firewall may be at fault, in fact it could be any driver on the computer.
This is where the problem starts, I have no idea about computers and have even less idea as to where to look to find out what driver is at fault, can someone please let me know with step by step instructions of how i can find the faulty driver, (if indeed it is tha cause of the problem) and how to rectify it. I have not installed anything new on the computer this problem has only just occured without warning, it only happens when i go onto the internet or onto web based games, I have also scanned my computer numerous times with a virus check and nothing has come up. If anyone requires more info to try to help me please let me know
Many thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope someone can be of assisstance to me

When the computer crashed and you got the BSOD (blue screen of death), it
didn't list the failing program file? What error code number and error
message did it report? You are asking us to analyze an undefined error -
and there are lots of ways to crash Windows. A bad driver is only one way.

Hello vanguard
The following numbers appear on the BSOD 0x000000c5 (0x00000004, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x80538162

When i go into the error report and click on technical data that it is sending to micrsoft the following error signiture comes up
BCCODE:c5 bcp1 00000000 bcp2 00000002 bcp3 00000001 bcp4 80538105 OSVER 5_1_2600 SP:1_0 product 768_

I hope this is of assisstance to you, it has totally confused me :

That's the problem with the BSOD if you aren't a programmer or at least know code you are wasting your time even having the memory dump turned on or any of those other useless options. Where you may get the help you need is in the Administrative tools\Event viewer found in the Control panel. go>start\control panel\administrative tools\event viewer. Once you have this open there will be three logs displayed. For now we can ignore the security log and look at the "Application" and "System" logs. First off you will need to know when the problem occured or make the problem occur and then go into the event viewer. Double click the "Application" log to open it's entries in the right window. Now look for any red Xs. These are the conflicts that you have. Double clicking a red X will open the details window. Now most of the info here will be foreign to you but you should be able to see module names and even the application name that has caused a conflict. At the very least you can click what looks like two overlapping pages on the right side and have the window saved to the clipboard and then post back here and give us the window. Do the same for the "System" log. If there are too many red Xs for you to know where to start then right click on the "System" or "Application" log and then choose "clear all events" and then when asked if you want to save them click no. This will give you a blank log and a starting point to help with your issue. If you need more assistance just e:mail me and if you like we can do a remote application share and perhaps I can isolate the problem from here. During the remote application sharing you can watch the entire process and if you feel uncomfortable you can simply click your mouse to disconnect me and gain control of your computer. Good luck

I am having the exact same issues with my computer, hope you don't mind if I jump in the discussion you two have going on what to do....I went to the event viewer and checked my application and system logs like suggested. Wow! I have red Xs everywhere. So do I clear them all now? I spent some time checking out what they may be... looks like different issues going on. Please advise. Thanks for any help.

I have looked into the logs and it shows a lot of errors but gives no real indication of what is causing the problem, although the times of the crashes all appear to have the error codes i have detailed above,
Unknown P, thx for the help I have sent you an email regarding this, hope to hear from you soon

I get this code every day. Every day I report it to Microsoft. Every day I wonder what it means and how I can ever find that out. Does anyone know who, where, how, whither or whence I can ever hope to figure out what this code means
Many thanks in advance for even the least hint of place I could try next

A Google search on 768_1 showed the following link with the same problem
and some possible fixes.

There may be some other Google hits as well.
