I have Excel 2002 sp3 on WinXP and have developed a report which provides
data for a set of records. There is a subform within each record's report.
The subform field is 5cm wide by 1.9 cm high and fits between a column of
figures and the edge of the page. Sometimes it contains a comment which is
usually one word, but may be longer and go over into two lines. My problem
is that the line of words in the subform field won't wrap the text, so I
lose the last couple of words all the time. I have the subform properties
CAN GROW and CAN SHRINK, in both the report and in the subform itself, set
as YES . but this has made no difference !

How can I text wrap the text in the subform field ?

Thanks .. Roger

I assume you mean Access, not Excel. Beyond that, your
question still puzzles me. A report is a way to present
data. What is the record source for the report, a table?
I will assume that you are using a report to present the
data in a table, and that there is a subreport within the
report. If the textbox is in a subreport detail, be
sure that the detail property is also set to grow, or that
it is tall enough for the text box. Have you tried
setting the text box as tall as it will ever need to be,
then setting the property to Can Shrink only?

Sorry, yes I meant Access2002sp3. The data source for the report is a query.
The report comprises only 3 lines of data for each record (or dossier) which
is a progress report doing 3 sets of calculations and giving me figures. The
query for the report filters the records based on a year date.

The subform which is in the report works off another query which filters the
actions taken on the respective dossier and tells me if the dossier is
closed, closed by request of the lawyer, or not. If it is closed then the
field has "closed" in it. If it is closed by request of the lawyer the words
are longer, hence the need for text wrapping. The detail for each dossier is
only 3 lines, hence the subform (which says CLOSED if appropriate) also is
only 3 lines deep. I have done this, and both the subform field in the
report and the subform itself has the GROW and SHRINK properties set to YES.
The field looks big enough to accomodate text wrapping, but it just won't
wrap!

The reason I inserted the subform is because the data and filters needed for
the subform data query wouldn't work in the data query for the report as
they had another set of filters which messed up the subform filters. Since
they wouldn't work together I thought the best way around it was to have 2
queries, and put the second one in the report as a subform (or subreport I
suppose!)

Thanks for your help .. Roger

I have to admit I don't know a lot about this, but since I
have been working with subreports and their formatting
quirks I thought I could offer a suggestion or two. As I
understand it, the comments truncate at the end of the
text box. My best suggestion is to open the subreport
alone in design view, and make sure that the text box is
the correct width. Adjusting the borders of the subreport
in design view of the main report will not change the text
box size, even though it looks as if it does.
