I'm new to the whole Windows Defender scene. I have installed it, and I can't
seem to find out just how I can tell if Defender is actually running and
protecting my computer. There is no icon in the lower right side of the
screen, or another indication that Defender is running. Who can tell me?

With kind regards,

Open Defender from Start, Programs, Windows Defender.
Click the Tools link at the top.
Under Settings, click Options.
Scroll down to Real-time protection options.
Under " Choose when the Windows Defender icon appears in the
notification area " put a check in the box next to Always.
Click the Save button button towards the bottom.

If you don't want the icon to always be present, choose the other option.
To see if Defender is protecting the system, open Task Manager, click
the Processes tab, and look under Image Name for :

MSASCui.exe
MsMpEng.exe

If both are listed, then Defender is running.
