I installed a new floppy drive and it worked. After putting the case back
on, which took quite a while because I forgot which way it went, computer
will not fire up. I have power but no video, no beep codes. I put in another
video card and still wont work so it's not the card. I'm thinking maybe
static electricity has damaged the motherboard but how do I know for sure?

Thanks

....I'm kinda going out on a limb here...but uh...did you plug the monitor cord into the computer and
are you sure the monitor is on?

You know that some BIOS chips look like insects. Maybe it went looking for
some food.My advice would be to unplug the power, reset the RAM, and then attempt to
POST.

Oh Hades, he's British. Great. Can we ship him to Guantanamo or something -
the national IQ would rise significantly.

Any other suggestions? 1001 uses for a brain-dead moron.

System specs might help. A difficult to reassemble case seems likely to
be OEM? What in particular was difficult about the case reassembly?

Check cables and anything else that might've been disturbed.
Check for a chassis intrusion switch.

Unplug power and clear CMOS.

What do you mean by this? Do you mean you put the cover back on the
case?

Where do you have power?

Try all the components on a new board. And even THAT won't prove for
sure that the board is good or bad.

Moron? I have seen how your troops treat prisioners, I have heard
you president speak and and I have seen the bollocks you spout here.
You are hardly in a position to call anyone a moron.

Erm, I take it you're too thick to understand my last post. I suggest you
re-read what I wrote and then come back and tell me on what basis you
decided I was a Yank.

Actually I take the 'moron' back - you'd need to quadruple your IQ at least
to be considered retarded.

I have never had static electricity damage that I know of and have been told
it takes a while. You might have caught a case wire when you were trying to
put it on the wrong way. Check all of the case wiring for one that might be
caught. And try to fire it up with the case removed which might show if you
snagged and shorted a wire. I had this happen once and it will prevent it
from firing up but not necessarily do damage. Check all connections that you
made when you installed the new floppy. The way that a motherboard can get
fried if you somehow touched metal to it when you powered up. Also check the
power supply wires to make sure none are shorted out.
